MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican cement giant Cemex SA said Thursday that it has named a new chairman of the board and a new chief executive officer.

The company said in a statement that directors have unanimously chosen Rogelio Zambrano as chairman of the board of directors and Fernando A. Gonzalez as CEO.

The men replace Lorenzo Zambrano who died Tuesday in Madrid. Zambrano transformed Cemex SA de Mexico from a regional cement producer into a global player.

Rogelio Zambrano previously served as a member of the board of directors, and Fernando A. Gonzalez held the position of executive vice president of finance and administration.

Cemex produces and sells cement, concrete and other construction materials, with about 43,000 employees worldwide. It reported annual revenue of more than $15 billion in 2013.
