LAS VEGAS (AP) — Jury selection enters a third day in Las Vegas in a civil wrongful death and medical malpractice lawsuit against a Nevada physician who found the body of pro golfer Erica Blasberg after she committed suicide. Blasberg's father accuses 46-year-old Dr. Thomas Hess of having an inappropriate personal relationship with the 25-year-old golfer, and of failing to provide proper medical care before she died.
ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Federal mine safety regulators say an experienced worker who was killed in an accident at a gold mine in Elko County apparently got his clothing entangled in equipment while drilling rock underground. The Elko Daily Free Press reports a preliminary federal investigation issued yesterday found that Richard Otto was running a drill April 28 when his clothes got caught in the machinery at Klondex's Midas Mine.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A California accountant has been convicted of federal mortgage fraud in southern Nevada. A jury found Carmen Mosley guilty of conspiracy and fraud charges in a scheme that prosecutors say cost federally insured financial institutions more than $1.5 million. She faces up to 30 years in prison and up to $4 million in fines.
HESPERIA, Calif. (AP) — Traffic is flowing again on both sides of a major California-to-Nevada interstate after being blocked by a bridge fire that stalled travelers and left charred wreckage slumping into lanes. Caltrans says the southbound lanes of I-15 in the Mojave Desert town of Hesperia were reopened at 11:45 last night. The route is a major artery between Southern California and Las Vegas.
