BEIJING (AP) — Major stock markets overseas have moved higher today amid greater optimism about the global economy.
But trading volumes were low as the U.S. and British markets were closed for holidays.
Germany's main index closed a half-point higher. France's rose a third of a point. Earlier, Tokyo's Nikkei rose 1.4 percent, while shares rose three-tenths of a point in Hong Kong.
Sentiment has been upbeat since last week, when Fed chair Janet Yellen sounded confident about the economy. She said the Fed intends to keep raising interest rates as long as growth keeps improving.
Bank shares in particular rose after her comments.
Last week, U.S. stocks recorded their strongest week in almost three months.
