MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia University's more than century-old newspaper will stop printing newspapers five days a week, instead printing three days a week and striving for daily online content.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail (http://bit.ly/1TSthcX ) reports The Daily Athenaeum is being affected by declining revenue from advertising and an audience more likely to read news on Facebook or Twitter than a printed product. The paper's staff will put more emphasis on its website and multimedia elements.
Adell Crowe was named director of student media at West Virginia University in March, a new position administrators hope will revamp and re-energize the school's student newspaper and college radio station.
Marshall University's student newspaper, The Parthenon, underwent similar changes last fall, deciding to stop printing four days a week and only print twice a week.
