MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico's state oil company says a fire that erupted on an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico killed two workers and injured eight.
Petroleos Mexico says via Twitter that the fire on the Abkatun A platform off the coast of the southern state of Campeche was brought under control Sunday morning and the installation was never abandoned.
It says one Pemex employee and a worker for a contractor died in the blaze. Six of the injured were hospitalized and two were treated and released.
Pemex says the fire began in an area of compression equipment but has not given any information on the cause.
