INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma says proposed school funding increases for the next two years are safe in the new state budget, but details on distributing that money are still being worked out.
The Republican leader says details of the new two-year spending plan will likely be released late Tuesday afternoon, a day ahead of the General Assembly's Wednesday adjournment deadline.
Bosma says negotiators have agreed on 2.3 percent increases in school funding for both years. Negotiations continue over shifting money from many urban and rural school districts with shrinking enrollments to those in growing suburban communities.
Budget writers met Tuesday morning with Gov. Mike Pence, who has pushed for a $40 million boost in charter school funding. The Senate spending plan didn't include that money.
