LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A Pulaski County judge has approved a plan to settle a 2008 case involving $3.2 million in illegally collected property tax revenue.
Circuit Judge Tim Fox approved the settlement Friday, ending nearly seven years of litigation over a tax increase that benefited the Central Arkansas Library System.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1CZpaP ) there are more than 11,200 refund applications to claim $459,582 of the money so far. Refund checks will be sent out this summer.
The settlement ends a lawsuit brought in 2008 on behalf of four property owners who alleged that agencies had started assessing a tax for library improvements a year too early.
A tentative agreement was reached in December before being approved by the judge on Friday.
