SALT LAKE CITY — A West Valley man wanted in connection with the kidnapping and sexual assault of a boy in 2017 was charged Friday with sexually assaulting a second boy in 2019.
David Cajina Rodriguez, 51, is charged with attempted sodomy on a child, a first-degree felony, and sex abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.
A 13-year-old boy recently told police that in August, he was working as a cleaner at a Salt Lake City office building when Rodriguez grabbed him inappropriately and pulled his pants down, according to charging documents. The boy was able to push away Rodriguez, who then gave the boy $20 and told him not to tell anyone, the charges state.
Prosecutors learned of that case after another case with similar circumstances was filed in 3rd District Court in August.
In that case, police say that in 2017, Rodriguez invited a 16-year-old boy into his apartment under the guise of needing help to move. But once inside, Rodriguez locked the door and started to touch the boy inappropriately, the charges state.
When the boy was finally able to break away from Rodriguez and unlock the door, Rodriguez asked him as he was leaving not to tell anyone, according to charging documents.
In that case, Rodriguez is charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony, forcible sex abuse, a second-degree felony, and enticing a minor, a third-degree felony.
Arrest warrants have been issued for Rodriguez in both cases. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call police at 801-799-3000.
