HARRISVILLE, Weber County — Police shot a man who wouldn't comply with orders after they were called to a home on a report of a domestic disturbance.

Just before 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, police were called to apartments at 2510 N. Charleston Ave., where they say they were confronted by a man holding a knife in each hand. The man, whose name was not released, "advanced on the officers despite repeated commands to stop," according to Harrisville Police Chief Maxwell Jackson.

He said police deployed a Taser, but it did not hit the man and "there was no time to try another time."

Three police officers from three agencies, including Harrisville, Pleasant View and North Ogden, shot the man "multiple times" and in "relatively close proximity," Jackson said.

The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Jackson said the man was arrested for "a similar confrontation" with police several months ago. He said family and friends will be interviewed during the ongoing investigation to "hopefully put some rhyme to reason to all of this."

Lee Buchanan, who also lives in the apartments where Saturday's incident occurred, said the area is typically "very quiet."

"It's really shocking to see something like this happen here," she said. "It's a really quiet neighborhood. I mean, we live next to fields and horses and that's why we like it."

She did not hear anything happening, though some of the residents did and called police.

"I'm hoping its a fluke," Buchanan said.

The three officers involved in the shooting were placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, which will be conducted by the Weber County Attorney's Office. A task force there will determine whether use of deadly force was necessary and if the man will faces any charges.

Maxwell said there is a history of domestic abuse at the home.
