SALT LAKE CITY — Three freeway ramps near the Salt Lake International Airport will be closed Sunday morning and afternoon as crews conduct bridge inspections in the area, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.

The I-215 northbound ramp to I-80 west will be closed from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., according to UDOT. Drivers will detour off I-215 to Redwood Road in order to connect back on I-80 west, UDOT said in a tweet.

The ramp from Redwood Road to I-215 south will be closed from noon to 4 p.m. Drivers should take Redwood Road south to state Route 201 and connect to I-215 south from there.

The ramp from I-80 west to I-215 south also will be closed from noon to 4 p.m. Drivers in that area will be instructed to exit at Redwood Road, take that south to Route 201 and connect to I-215 south from there, UDOT said.

UDOT spokesman John Gleason said bridges are inspected about every two years. Out of 1,900 bridges in the state, only ten are rated as in poor condition, he said.

All of those bridges will be addressed within the next five years, and they are still safe to use, Gleason said.

“We're very fortunate here that we've had so many new capacity projects, because that's meant brand new bridges,” he said.
