THE CLOUDS — Jumping out of an airplane is not everyone's idea of a great time, but luckily for us, Dusty Hanks from Bountiful loves it. And now we get to celebrate with him and America for a world title.
These videos show off Hanks winning his second consecutive skydiving world championship title with his team, SDC Core. The team competed in the 2018 World Parachuting Championships last week in Gold Coast, Australia, and they won gold in vertical formation skydiving.
What is vertical formation skydiving, you ask? Well, it's pretty intense and beautiful as you can see from the video. In vertical formation skydiving, a four-person team exits an airplane more than 2 miles above the ground. They then must perform acrobatic maneuvers in freefall. Watch the videos to see just how hard that is.
Hanks' SDC Core team earned the opportunity to represent the United States at the World Championships after winning gold at last year’s U.S. Parachute Association National Skydiving Championships. Hanks himself has completed more than 10,000 jumps, and it sounds like all that hard work has definitely paid off.
You can go tell Hanks congrats at iFLY Utah, a wind tunnel in Ogden, where he works as an instructor. He also jumps at Skydive Ogden.
Thanks, Hanks, for bringing a world championship title home to the United States and Utah.
