SALT LAKE CITY — A new map aims to illustrate where working women are the most equal, and Utah was given a failing grade.
Utah received a D+ for the status of women’s equality in employment and earnings from the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, which recently released a new report. Utah was ranked No. 41 out of the 50 U.S. states and District of Columbia.
Each state’s ranking was determined by compiling data on women’s median earnings for full-time, year-round work; percentage of women in the labor force; the female-to-male wage ratio; and the percentage of women in managerial and professional occupations, according to the report.
Utah’s lowest ranking, 47, was for the earnings ratio between full-time, year-round employed men and women. It’s highest ranking, 17, was for the percentage of women in the labor force.
D.C. came in first place for having the most equal workforce and received an A grade. West Virginia was ranked last.
