LAYTON — Two brothers in Davis County hope someone will come forward after thieves stole their bees.

The teens raise bees at a field in Layton for the Slide Ridge Honey Company in Davis County. Bryce Bunderson said he worked the bees right now, taking them around the state and to California to pollinate the almond crops.

Last week someone removed frames full of bees and honey and replaced them with empty frames.

“It’s all but two or three (hives). It’s hard to bounce back from that, but we are going to try,” Bunderson said.

Money earned through the beehives paid for his brother’s current mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When his brother returns, Bunderson planned to keep the bees to pay for his mission, as well.

“We just have to wait till next spring, and try to see if we can buy more bees, and split the ones we have,” he said. “That’s if they survive. So we just have to wait and see what happens next year.”

Slide Ridge Honey tweeted that people are offering to replace the missing bees to help the brothers.

The Weather Channel and CNN have reported bee rustling is a growing problem across the country.
