ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — A Salt Lake City man found dead near Capitol Peak fell to his death.
The Pitkin County coroner's office said Thursday that 53-year-old James Edgar Nelson died of multiple injuries from the fall.
The body of the husband and father of five was recovered from the Mount Daly Basin above Moon Lake on Wednesday. Two people were injured in the recovery effort after someone watching from above reportedly triggered a rockslide.
Family friend Seth Mitchell told the Aspen Times that Nelson was a Navy veteran and an avid mountain biker and ultramarathon runner. He said Nelson often went for solo hikes.
The search for Nelson began after a relative notified the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office late Tuesday that he had failed to return home as scheduled.
