SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested Wednesday after police say he assaulted his girlfriend's son with a pan.

It was the third time in three consecutive weeks that Tracy Gallardo, 43, has either been arrested or convicted of a domestic violence-related crime.

Just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to 951 N. Redwood Road where the man struck a 6-year-old boy in the forehead with a cooking pan, according to Salt Lake police.

The Division of Child and Family Services was contacted, and the boy and his 5-year-old sister were allowed to stay with their mother.

The boy was taken to a local hospital to be treated for a gash. Gallardo was arrested for investigation of child abuse and criminal mischief for kicking a patrol car and leaving a dent in the door while being transported to jail, according to police.

Gallardo's arrest comes just one week after he was convicted of domestic violence and assault in West Valley Justice Court, according to court records. Sentencing for that case was scheduled for Aug. 20. At his last court hearing, the judge told Gallardo that his conviction for "this offense may be used as an enhancement to the penalties for a subsequent offense," according to court records.

The week before his conviction in West Valley City, Gallardo was convicted of domestic violence in the presence of a child in Salt Lake Justice Court. He was placed on probation at that time and ordered to seek domestic violence treatment.

Other past convictions include theft earlier this year, possessing a dangerous weapon in 2007, escape from custody in 2007 and DUI and drug distribution in 2006.
