ALPINE — Criminal charges have been filed against an Alpine elementary school teacher as part of a child pornography investigation.
Edward A. Greene, 54, of Spanish Fork, was charged Thursday in 4th District Court with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.
In May, watchdogs at Google monitored someone uploading images of child pornography on two separate days, according to court records. They reported the incidents to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children who determined the IP address came from Spanish Fork, the charges states. The Utah County Sheriff's Office was then contacted and opened an investigation.
A search warrant was served on June 10. Greene was in Texas at the time. Police there seized his cellphone and tablet, and mailed them back to authorities in Utah County, a police affidavit states.
A preliminary examination of Greene's electronic devices turned up 10 pornographic images of prepubescent and young teen boys, according to court records.
Bail was set at $10,000, which Greene posted. His initial appearance in court is scheduled for Monday.
Greene, who was placed on administrative leave by the district, has been a fifth grade teacher at Westfield Elementary in Alpine for six years. Prior to that, he taught out of state.
