WEST VALLEY CITY — Bureau of Land Management officials said Saturday that preliminary results of an investigation into the Pony Fire show it was caused by a military training accident.

Around 10 a.m. on June 11, the fire started approximately one-third of a mile south of a Tooele County road known as the Pony Express Road and 3 miles north of the BLM Simpson Springs campground. It burned 928 acres of BLM- managed lands, the agency said.

The Utah National Guard was apparently training near the Dugway Proving Ground when the fire began.

The fire was contained by June 12 at 6 p.m., according to the BLM.
