OAKLEY— A 17-year-old girl is in the hospital after crashing her ATV in Weber Canyon Sunday afternoon.

Around 2:00 p.m., Utah State Park Rangers received a call of an injured rider. A group of four girls were riding in the Canyon Rim Ranches when one of the girls lost control of her ATV. The ATV rolled down a hill and landed on its side up against a tree. The teen was thrown about three feet from her ATV.

“We were both in shock. I remember looking at Micah and thinking what do we do?” Anna Wilson said. Wilson was a friend of the teen girl and witnessed the accident.

Two of the friends waited with the teen while a third ran to get help.

“She lost consciousness for a little bit,” said Micah Fredrick, who saw the accident with Wilson.

“She was shaking,” Wilson said.

The girls worked to keep their friend conscious for 15 minutes until park rangers arrived. She was then airlifted to the hospital with only minor injuries. She suffered scrapes and bruises, but park rangers say it could have been far worse. She was not wearing a helmet or protective clothing.

“If she would have had a helmet on, long pants, long sleeved shirt, good boots, I dare say she might have walked away,” Park Ranger Joe Donnell said.
