DONETSK, Ukraine — As civil unrest continues in Ukraine, 85 missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been transferred, the church announced Friday.
The missionaries serving in the Ukraine Donetsk Mission have been transferred to serve in other areas within Ukraine, according to the church. There are four missions in the country.
"The well-being of missionaries is always our first priority, and every effort is being made to keep them safe," a statement from the church reads.

Due to civil unrest in Ukraine, 23 missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Dnepropetrovsk Mission have been removed from the Crimean peninsula.The civil unrest in the area also prompted the church to transfer 23 missionaries from the Ukraine Dnepropetrovsk Mission on March 1. Church spokesman Cody Craynor said the church moved missionaries out of the Crimean Peninsula as a "precautionary measure." Those missionaries were transferred to different areas within the same mission.
At the same time, the church said 22 missionaries in Ukraine would end their missions early and return home because of the situation. Those missionaries returned home at the beginning of March.
Missionaries preparing to go to Ukraine were being temporarily reassigned to other missions in March, according to the church.
