SALT LAKE CITY — Life can be a roller coaster, but even in the dark times, there is always good to be found in the world. Whether it's the stranger that gives up their seat on the train or the person that puts away your shopping cart for you, there are kind people everywhere.

Each Monday, we hope to share moments from our readers’ lives that made their day great. Whether it is a kind note from a loved one, an act of kindness or a person with an inspiring attitude, we want to hear about it.

On the thoughtfulness of others:

I went through the drive thru of the Chick Fil-A at the District to pick up a lemonade and chicken nuggets for dinner, as a treat. It was the last meal I would have before reporting to the hospital for a total knee replacement. The young gal handed me my dinner and simply said enjoy and have a great night. She will never know what that simple act means to me. It lifted my spirits more than words can say.

On the power of sharing:

The elementary school I work at was gathering donations to give to the local food bank. One boy came into the library after lunch and handed me a small box of raisins and asked if he could donate the box. He proceeded to tell me that his mom insisted on packing two boxes of raisins everyday and he only needs one, so he thought it should go to someone that needed it.

That little boy came in everyday at lunch for two weeks and donated his small box of raisins. He never missed a day. This student taught me a great lesson in those two weeks that it doesn't matter the size of the gift, but the size of heart behind it. I will never look at a box of raisins the same way.

Gary M.On giving service to those in need:

I was about 40 miles east of Rock Springs, Wyo., when I got a flat tire. After installing the spare tire, I knew it was in bad shape, too. Right across the freeway was an old abandoned garage with a couple of guys sharing a drink for a moment after work on the tailgate of a truck. I asked for a ride into Rock Springs and one of them was heading that way. He took me and my tire to the nearest tire store and instead of leaving me there as I had requested, he stayed with me and then brought me all the way back. That’s about 80 miles out of his way.

On showing gratitude:

This morning when I got into work, one of my coworkers had left a thank you note on my desk — just because! The fact that she just did it because of things that we have helped each other with in the past, made me feel so good. Sometimes it is the little things that make our day and my Monday will be a little better now.

On giving a helping hand:

Just a few weeks ago on a cold, pouring rain spring afternoon, I was racing out of the grocery store with my three young kids in tow who were getting wet and colder by the minute. As we were running to car I was thinking in my head, "I don't want to put my kids in the car and then have to go back to the store to put my basket back" but they were crying and so cold.

We made it to the car and I put my kids in the vehicle and then turned around to quickly run through the rain to put my basket back. However, I noticed that a young lady had grabbed my basket while my back was turned and was returning it to the basket return. Such a small thing, but a huge blessing for this mother of young, cold, wet children.
