SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Highway Patrol is warning drivers to be extra cautious after a spring storm contributed to a life-threatening accident when a car rolled from the freeway into a backyard.

A car with four occupants was driving along I-15 near the south part of Santaquin late Wednesday night when it slid off the freeway and rolled into a backyard.

The 40-year-old male driver sustained possible life-threatening injuries.

"He'll be in the hospital for quite some time," said UHP Sgt. Todd Royce. "His injuries are extensive."

A medical helicopter was called to the scene, according to the Daily Herald; however, due to bad weather the helicopter couldn't fly.

The driver and a woman in the car were taken by ambulance to a hospital. The two other occupants of the vehicle weren't seriously hurt, the Daily Herald reported.

There is a 60 to 70 percent chance of rain and snow throughout Thursday morning. Drivers will have unfavorable conditions during the commute so they should leave a little earlier and drive slower when needed.
