MAGNA — A man who police say robbed a convenience store at gunpoint didn't make the most stealthy getaway Friday.
About 12:45 p.m., two Unified police officers driving by the area of 8400 West and 2700 South spotted a man wearing a ski mask that completely covered his face. He was running down the street while carrying an object under his arm.
"As they get close, they realize he's carrying part of a cash register till," said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.
In the other hand, the man was holding a gun, he said.
Just as the officers spotted the man and were about to question him, an employee at a nearby Chevron, about a block away, called 911 to report he had been robbed.
"(The suspect) points the gun at the clerk, forces him back behind the counter, demands money from the clerk. Clerk complies, gives him money. The suspect gets upset because he wanted more money and ultimately got frustrated and left," Hoyal said.
As police attempted to talk to the man on the street, he kept running away. The officers were eventually able to cut him off as he tried running through a front yard, Hoyal said.
Scott Trumble, 33, was arrested for investigation of aggravated robbery.
Utah state court records show Trumble has a minor criminal history in the state, pleading no contest to a misdemeanor intoxication charge in 2006.
