WEST JORDAN — Police were looking Friday for a West Jordan man who they say tried to run down another man with his car.

Michael Birdsall, 49, was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with two counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; accident involving property damage, a class B misdemeanor; and reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor.

On Oct. 10, two witnesses said they saw Birdsall speeding through a Dollar Store parking lot near 7000 S. Redwood Road in West Jordan. The couple "exchanged words" with Birdsall before leaving the parking lot, charging documents state.

Birdsall followed the man and woman and tried to rear-end their vehicle, according to police.

The couple pulled into a home near 7600 S. Frodo Ave., and the man got out of his car to confront Birdsall. Birdsall then drove across the lawn, repeatedly attempting to run over the man, who jumped out of the way, the charges state.

The woman said she heard and saw a teenage boy in the vehicle with Birdsall and the teen was "screaming and crying for his dad to leave."

Police also documented damage to a stop sign, a light pole and a power pole, which they say Birdsall hit as he fled the scene.

A warrant for Birdsall's arrest was served with the charges Friday.

A search of court records indicates Birdsall pleaded guilty in 2001 to endangerment of a child or elderly adult, amended to a class A misdemeanor. In 2003, he pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony.
