PROVO — A 23-year-old man was hit by a car turning right while he was still in the crosswalk Thursday, police said.
The man was unconscious when officers arrived. He had been standing on the corner of the intersection and started crossing the street when the walk signal came on, police said.
Just after the light turned green and he entered the crosswalk, a car traveling on Bulldog Boulevard made a right turn and struck him, according to police. The accident occurred at the intersection of 200 West Bulldog Blvd. at 7:57 p.m.
The man was transported to the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries.
"Although his injuries were minor, this is a good reminder to all of us that it’s not always safe to go when the light is green," a statement on the Provo Police Department's Facebook page reads. "We cannot assume that all drivers look out for pedestrians or follow traffic lights or stop signs."
Police cautioned people to always look both ways before moving forward. They said this was the third serious accident of this nature within the past couple of months.
