SPANISH FORK — An auto accident involving a passenger car and a semitruck left one man dead Thursday morning.

Spanish Fork police said the accident happened at the intersection of 2550 East and state Road 6 at 8:15 a.m. The driver of the four-door sedan was attempting to make a left-hand turn from the northbound turn lane of 2550 East.

According to police, the semitruck was heading south when the sedan turned left into the truck. Witnesses said the light was green at the intersection for the sedan, but the light was red for southbound traffic.

The 59-year-old driver of the semitruck, an Orem man, told investigators that he slowed down as he approached the intersection due to the dense visibility, but he entered it sooner than he was anticipating.

The driver of the sedan has been identified as Nathan Hales, 48, of Spanish Fork. Police said Hales was deceased at the scene of the accident. The driver of the semitruck was not harmed in the accident.

Hales is the first cousin of Spanish Fork Police Chief Steven Adams, and he leaves behind a wife and five children.

Police said the accident is still under investigation, and no citations have been issues at present.
