SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's acting Attorney General Brian Tarbet has joined other states in asking Congress to fund anti-human trafficking measures.
The Utah Attorney General's Office says in a Wednesday news release that Tarbet says human trafficking is happening in Utah. He and 46 other attorney generals sent a letter Wednesday asking Congress to fund a measure passed in 2000 designed to protect human trafficking victims and help prosecute people doing the trafficking.
Tarbet has been the acting attorney general since John Swallow resigned earlier this month. Swallow said the strain of multiple investigations was too much for his family and finances.
The day after he announced his resignation, the Utah lieutenant governor's office released a scathing report that found Swallow deliberately withheld information from his campaign documents.
