SALT LAKE CITY — A pedestrian was critically injured when she was hit by a car while crossing a street Friday morning.
The 20-year-old woman was crossing 3900 South at about 1115 West when she was hit by an eastbound car, according to the Unified Police Department.
The woman was pushing a stroller with belongings in it but no child. She was accompanied by a dog, which died in the accident. The woman was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in extremely critical condition.
Witnesses said the woman "darted out into the road to cross the street." There is no crosswalk in the area of the accident.
The speed limit is 40 mph, and police said speed does not appear to be a factor. The woman driving the car was not injured.
Detectives were working Friday to verify the woman's name and find her residence.
Eastbound 3900 South from 1500 West to 1100 West was expected to remain closed until about noon.
