SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announcedthat it will be combining two annual church-wide women's meetings into one semiannual gathering.

The First Presidency announced the church will no longer be holding separate meetings for young women and Relief Society aged women, but rather will organize a ‘general women's meeting' to take place twice a year on the Saturday before General Conference.

"As the women of the church gather together—sisters, mothers, and daughters—they, their families, and the Church will be strengthened and blessed," the First Presidency said in a letter to church members.

The announcement on the website detailed who will be invited to attend these meetings.

"All women, young women, and girls ages 8 years old and older will be invited to attend," the announcement states.

Since 1993, two meetings have been held annually for LDS women. A General Relief Society meeting for women ages 18 and older has been held in the fall and a Young Women's meeting has taken place in the spring. From 1984-1993, a combined meeting was held.

"The general women's meeting will be held the Saturday before each general conference and will be conducted by the general presidencies of the Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary organizations," the news release stated.
