WEST VALLEY CITY — A 16-year-old boy who police say fired several rounds at rival gang members Friday was arrested and booked into juvenile detention.

About 3 a.m., two groups of rival gang members — about seven people total — were at Rancherito's, 3455 S. 5600 West, at the same time, said West Valley Police Lt. Lamonte Cox.

Words were exchanged, and when both groups were leaving to get into their vehicles, a teen from one group fired several rounds at the other group, Cox said. West Valley police officers happened to be in the area and heard the shots. They quickly located the suspect vehicle.

The alleged shooter was arrested. The others in his vehicle were released to their parents and will appear in court at a later date.

The victims were never found and no one ever showed up at a local hospital or Instacare to be treated for a possible gunshot wound, Cox said.
