PROVO — A 71-year-old man died Friday after collapsing at LaVell Edwards Stadium. It happened just before kick-off of the BYU-Middle Tennessee game.

BYU Police Lt. Arnold Lemmon said the man was standing in the north stands when witnesses say he suddenly collapsed.

"He sustained a laceration to the head, and then it was at that time (witnesses) noticed he was unconscious and not breathing," Lemmon said.

BYU emergency workers were summoned and began CPR within minutes of the fall, Lemmon said. The man was transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

As per standard procedure, BYU police plan to conduct a full investigation into the incident.

The man's name was not released Friday night.
