SAL LAKE CITY — Workplace competition is common for career advancements, and one company is offering incentives for employees to lose weight.
"I sit at my desk all day long," MIRO Industries employee Bryce Wells said.
"As I get older, I feel like I need to get myself back into shape," another MIRO employee Daniel Noble said.
The story is the same with these employees at MIRO Industries and Rooftop Anchor; bad food, large portions, and not enough exercise.
When their boss put up $500 and other cash prizes for the the person who loses the most weight in 90 days, MIRO's employees got moving.
Wells lost 26 pounds riding his bike 30 miles a day. His wife Candace said she joined in the competition as well.
"We eat healthier and we do more activities as a family," Candace said.
Noble said he has changed some of his lifestyle habits in honor of the competition.
"I've been eating a little differently. I'm less into fatty foods, fried food," Noble said.
MIRO employee Milt Sargent said he's lost 39 pounds and is beating out his younger competitors.
"I sleep better. I feel better," Sargent said, "I've been able to get off two out of three medications that that I've been on for the last I don't know how many years."
The entire company of participating "losers" has lost 400 pounds.
President Nate Sargent said this contest will cost him some money upfront but will pay off big in the long run.
"Of course we make less doctors visits," Sargent said. "We consume less prescription medication so our healthcare will decrease, I hope, as the company becomes more healthy."
