OREM — Investigators are seeking help to locate the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit and run accident that left a bicyclist injured on Geneva Road between Orem and Provo.
Benjamin Stuermer, 32, of Orem, was found by a Utah County sheriff's deputy shortly after midnight Friday and appeared to have suffered head injuries from being struck by a passing vehicle.
Stuermer told the sheriff's office he routinely commutes on his bicycle between his home and his job in Orem. Authorities were alerted to the accident by a motorcyclist who spotted a bicycle with a broken rear tire but did not see the victim.
The deputy responding to the report of the damaged bicycle spotted Stuermer standing by a power pole a few feet away. Stuermer apparently suffered some memory loss, investigators said, and repeatedly asked the deputy what had happened.
Skid marks going off the pavement and into the dirt shoulder of the road near the bicycle were found, along with a numbered car part from a Toyota Sienna minivan, the sheriff's office reported. Deputies were uncertain whether the minivan was involved in the crash.
