XanGo employees laid off as new strategy announced

LEHI — The international juice company laid off many of its employees Tuesday and announced a new strategy to financially reposition the business.

It’s reported that as much as 30 percent of XanGo's Lehi employees were let go beginning at about 9:30 a.m.

Dave Webb, XanGo communications vice president, told The Daily Herald many of the employees were highly-skilled, including employees from web development, graphic design, compliance and IT departments. The upside is those employees are eligible for rehire, he said.

“They’re all in good standing with the company. This is not a performance issue,” he said in the interview. “These are phenomenal producers, their output has been great.”

The layoffs are a result of the company’s new strategy to revamp the business and refocus its initiatives, the company said.

“This is part of a long-term strategy to ensure the company is nimble and best able to support its strategic goals and quickly seize developing opportunities with full commitment,” reads a statement from the company.

Lehi is just one of the juice company’s many facilities that will experience cutbacks. XanGo was founded in 2002 and has grown quickly over the last decade, bringing about 400 jobs to Utah Valley. It has more than 2 million distributors and earlier this year it reported $2 billion in revenue.

In May, one of the co-founders accused his five founding partners of asset mismanagement, intimidation and illegal activities. Before that, XanGo was sued by Angel Investors, a company that alleged XanGo’s founders took millions of dollars in personal loans from the company.

XanGo is currently preparing for a convention in September and said the company will continue to move forward.

"We’re excited about what we are hearing from our distributors’ successes in the field,” reads the statement. “We look forward to unveiling our latest life-changing product, enhancements to our business compensation and additional initiatives.”
