UTAH COUNTY — A woman was hospitalized Saturday after driving a motorcycle off the road in Goshen Canyon, near the southern border of Utah County. Police suspect alcohol or prescription drugs may have been involved.
According to Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened just after 3 p.m. Brenda Charlene Robbs, 52, failed to negotiate a curve on the winding Goshen Canyon Road.
Witnesses saw the dust resulting from the incident, though not the accident itself, and went to render aid, according to Cannon. Robbs was in and out of consciousness, having sustained head injuries, cuts and abrasions in the accident. She was wearing a helmet at the time, Cannon said.
Those seeking to help Robbs were forced to find a nearby house to report the accident because there was no access to a phone in the canyon.
Robbs was taken to University Hospital in Salt Lake City by medical helicopter. Cannon said that while her injuries did not appear to be life threatening, her loss of consciousness was a concern.
Cannon said investigators suspect alcohol, prescription drugs or both in the accident, citing evidence found at the scene. He also said speed may have been a factor.
