Frances J. Monson: A 'gift and a blessing'

In what has been widely circulated by a number of media outlets, Sister Monson's daughter, Ann Monson Dibb, shares her thoughts on her mother in a 4-minute video tribute. Accompanying the video is a written eulogy by Joseph Walker and Tom Hatch of the Deseret News.

In the video, Dibb says, "There was never a question as to what she believed, what she would do, what she expected others to do. She exemplified what we should be as a Latter-day Saint, as a Christian, and that became her testimony."

One such story that President Monson related during the April 2008 general conference was about his wife awakening from a coma, only to immediately remind him to pay their income taxes. A firsthand perspective: Reflecting on the life and legacy of Frances Monson

In this first-person tribute, Church News editor Gerry Avant gives her thoughts of nearly 40 years of interaction with the late Sister Monson. She shares her thoughts on Sis. Monson and relates stories and insights about her life: "Latter-day Saints throughout the world know about President Monson’s many compassionate acts of service," she writes. "They’ve heard or read about his visits to hospital bedsides, care centers and private homes. What they might not realize is that Sister Monson was by his side during many of those visits and, on occasion, pointed out to him people they should go see."

There was never a question as to what she believed, what she would do, what she expected others to do. She exemplified what we should be as a Latter-day Saint, as a Christian, and that became her testimony.

"One time she said, 'When I pass away, I want you to remember that I bought everything in this house on sale.'"

Blog: conniesokol.com

KSL.com Motherhood Matters columnist Connie Sokol paid tribute to the late Sister Monson on her blog, sharing her insights on the life of an exemplary woman in a society with differing values: "In our '15 minutes of fame' society, so much in print, online and on TV revolves around fame, celebrity and notoriety. So it may be hard for some to appreciate that people really do love to serve their family in the capacity of a nurturing woman, wife and mother. That was Sister Frances Monson."

Twitter

Twitter users flooded the platform with tributes to Sister Monson and condolences to President Monson and his family. The messages came from prominent people such as Utah Gov. Gary Herbert and U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz as well as average citizens like Shayla Seay, who wrote, "Inspired by Thomas S. Monson and his strength through life trials. The testament of love is huge. So sorry for his loss."

Funeral services will be held Thursday at noon in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. The public is invited to attend.
