SALT LAKE CITY — No injuries have been reported after a shootout occurred Thursday near a Salt Lake City homeless shelter.
Two men escaped the crime scene near 500 West and 300 South after firing 12-15 shots at one another at about 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Salt Lake City Lt. J.R. Nelson confirmed to KSL News.
The men were firing north and south about 170 feet away from one another while standing on the 500 West center median.
When the shooting ended, one man jumped into a nearby van and drove away, Nelson confirmed. The other man left on foot.
Police were combing the area Thursday in search of shell casings and witnesses. As of 4:30 p.m., police hadn't encountered any victims. Hospitals have been alerted to be on the lookout for people coming in with gunshot wounds.
