WEST HAVEN — A Harrisville man working on a roof died Tuesday after he was knocked off of a building and fell to the ground.

The man, 35, whose name was not immediately available pending notification of family members, was welding a metal roof onto a structure at 2873 W. 1800 South that was being built for storing large equipment.

The man disconnected his safety harness about 9:20 a.m. to retrieve a tool. While he was detached from his safety belt, a strong gust of wind lifted one of the sheets of metal on the roof and blew it into the man, said Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Lowther.

The metal sheet knocked the man off the roof. He fell an estimated 25 feet and was pronounced dead at the scene, Lowther said.
