HYRUM — Police in Cache County are looking for a man who led them on a brief chase early Saturday morning, but not before handing over his driver's license first.

Around 12:40 a.m., a Cache County sheriff's deputy stopped a car at 3400 S. 1200 West in Hyrum, according to Lt. Brian Locke with the sheriff's department. As the deputy approached the car, he could smell alcohol on the driver.

It's not if, it's a matter of when we catch up with (him). Hopefully he just turns himself in.

–Lt. Brian Locke, Cache County Sheriff's Office

The deputy took the man's license and asked him to get out of the car, but the driver took off, Locke said. Deputies quickly launched a chase through Hyrum. About four minutes into the chase, a 20-year-old female passenger — whom Locke said was the driver's girlfriend — bailed out of the car, and deputies cut the chase short.

A UHP trooper found the vehicle a short time later, crashed into a fence near 200 East and 300 North. Logan police officers and K-9 units helped set up a perimeter to catch the driver and remaining passenger.

The second passenger — a 23-year-old man — turned himself in, deputies said.

The driver — Brian Jenson of Hyrum — managed to evade law enforcement. But since he gave his license to the deputy who pulled him over, his identity is no secret.

"We do know who he is and so a warrant for his arrest will be issued and we will be looking for him," said Locke. "It's not if, it's a matter of when we catch up with (him). Hopefully he just turns himself in."
