EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A Utah County neighborhood has gone pink — from lawns to trees — all in support of one of their own who is battling breast cancer.
Katie Allen was diagnosed with breast cancer last July. Since then, she's had surgeries, chemo and numerous follow-up treatments which have amounted to a big stack of medical bills.
One of her friends and neighbors, Andrea Hecklinger, wanted to do something to help.

"It started with just me talking with some neighbors about it then grabbing some people," she said. "Soon we had a whole bunch of people from the neighborhood and we started getting donations from businesses and it's just grown to this."
The community came together to put on a giant yard and bake sale, with all proceeds going toward Katie's treatments. Neighbors painted their lawns and trees pink a week before the big event to generate publicity and get the word out.
"It's a great outpouring of support, and not just for them but for the community," said Katie. "It's just humbling to know how much my family and I really are loved. It helps make this all so much easier to go through."
Volunteers served cheeseburgers, cotton candy and popcorn as music played for those browsing the sale items.
The fundraiser began Friday and runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Nolan Park and Sparrow Hawk Way in Eagle Mountain.
