MIDVALE — Police are investigating the cause of three suspicious fires that started early Thursday morning.

A call about the first fire was received at 4:52 a.m. Firefighters were dispatched to a neighborhood around 185 E. 7660 South where they extinguished a fence fire.

While firefighters were putting out the fence fire, a second call was received about a separate fire about a block away. When firefighters got to the scene, they found a car engulfed in flames.

A third fire was reported by a resident of the neighborhood while firefighters fought the other two. It was another fence fire in the same neighborhood.

All three fires were started and extinguished within a 40 minute window. About 10 firefighters were dispatched to the area.

Wes Stagg, the owner of the car, said the fire is devastating. The car, which was the family's only car, is blackened and charred, and now unusable. His neighbor saw the fire around 5:30 a.m. and called the police.

While he doesn't have an answer as to why his car went up in flames, Stagg hopes investigators will get to the bottom of it soon.

"They said it was a random arson attack," Stagg said.

The Unified Fire Authority said the location and timing of the fires is suspicious and investigators are looking into the fires as possible arson.

No injuries occurred as a result of the fires.
