SALEM — A Salem man has been booked into jail in connection with the death of his wife.
Tracy Scott, 47, was being held in the Utah County Jail for investigation of murder, according to Salem City Police Chief Brad James. Scott's wife, Teresa, 45, was found dead in the bedroom of their home near 300 South and 400 East around 7 p.m. Saturday.
James said Tracy Scott had told dispatchers that he had shot his wife when he called 911 and was arrested at the couple's home. He was arrested without incident.
Two firearms were collected from the home, James said, though he would not comment on how many shots were fired or Teresa Scott's injuries.
"We can't talk about her injury," he said. "The Medical Examiner's office (will) determine the manner and cause of death."
James said there had been an "ongoing dispute" between the couple over the course of the past two weeks. He declined to comment on the reason for the argument.
"This is an ongoing investigation and we're looking into several circumstances and facts," James said. "We're confident that we have the individual in custody who caused this tragedy, and unfortunately this is just another tragedy in this country that involved domestic violence. It's unfortunate. We see it way too much."
Police had responded to the Scott's home on reports of "family problems" before, but had not been to the home in three or four years.
The couple have two teenage sons who were not home at the time of the incident. They are currently staying with family members.
Mark Henderson, a neighbor who had known the Scott family for 15 years, said he hadn't noticed anything amiss. He said he talked to Tracy Scott just days before the shooting.
"I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary," Henderson said of his neighbor. "He seemed normal. Just as he always is. What's normal? He's been a good neighbor. (I) can't complain."
