SPRINGVILLE — John Dangerfield, owner of Kranky Franks in Springville, is in the hospital recovering from brain surgery. But Friday his small restaurant was packed with well-wishers and paying customers.

John Dangerfield went to get a check-up because of memory issues and difficulty walking. Doctors discovered fluid in his brain.

"He was forgetful, trouble walking, and wasn't himself," said Stephen Dangerfield, John's son.

On Wednesday, John Dangerfield, a loving father of six children ages 12 to 27, found out he had a brain tumor. Doctors will conduct more tests before determining if the tumor is cancerous, but the family is hoping for the best.

"He is a great dad," said Stephen Dangerfield. "He has taught his children well."

The stand shut its doors earlier this week, but this weekend, John Dangerfield's kids re-opened the restaurant, hoping to cover some of his mounting medical bills. And a crowd came ready to eat and give.

"Hundreds upon hundreds of people were there today," said Lyle Mortimer, a family friend and neighbor. "They must have sold over 1,000 hot dogs. It's the most amazing thing in the world to know that you live in that kind of a community, with such astounding people."

Deseret News:

Customers say they're more than willing to help since John is such a good person. Some are even going to the stand three times a day to show their support and buy some dogs.

"We're here to do anything we can to help," said Marcie Crandall, a former neighbor. "They are in our prayers."

Friends and family manned the stand all day Friday and plan on staying open late again Saturday, hoping for another big crowd.

"It's tragic. It's a terrible thing to happen for any family," said family friend Kandy Curtis, who came to help serve. "I got here at 10:30 (a.m.), and I'll stay until they need me. I know they would do the same for me."
