TAYLORSVILLE — A man accused of domestic assault is receiving medical treatment after being found and bitten by a police dog.

The Unified Police Department said the man was choking and beating the 18-year-old mother of his child on the front lawn of a home near 4375 South and 1400 West in Taylorsville around 7:30 a.m. Friday. Witnesses said the woman was screaming for help.

When police arrived, the man fled. The K9, Vortex, found him hiding in a vacant house nearby and bit him.

The man was taken to a hospital to be treated for the dog bite. Police said he could face charges of aggravated assault or possibly attempted murder.

The woman was taken to a hospital with injuries to her face and neck.
