MURRAY — The LEGO Group has announced plans to open Utah's first LEGO store sometime in 2013.

The store will open at Fashion Place Mall, 6191 S. State St. in Murray. An exact date has not been set, and company representatives declined to provide more information.

Stores will also open in Danbury, Conn.; Des Peres, Mo.; and San Antonio, Texas. Grand opening celebrations will feature exclusive, limited-edition LEGO sets and T-shirts, according to the company.

The LEGO Group, founded in 1932, sells toys in more than 130 countries. It has nearly 100 stores worldwide, including 64 in the U.S. The 2013 store openings bring the U.S. store total to 68.

LEGO is an extremely popular brand of toys worldwide. The current form of the brick, twice named the "toy of the century," was developed in 1958.

The company has gotten attention in recent months for its customer service. In December, LEGO tracked down a discontinued toy set for a Massachusetts boy with Asperger's Syndrome. And in January, the company came to the rescue with a replacement toy when a 7-year-old in England lost the toy he had bought with Christmas money.
