SALT LAKE CITY — Answers are starting to surface about the death of Ann Jensen, who was shot in her South Salt Lake apartment Nov. 4, 2012.

Christopher Grant Sutton, 37, has been charged with murder and aggravated burglary, both first-degree felonies, as well as obstructing justice, a second-degree felony, in connection with the woman's death.

According to charges filed Thursday in 3rd District Court, Jensen had requested that an officer contact her in regards to rape allegations she had made against an acquaintance of Sutton a day prior to her death.

Sutton and the acquaintance were reportedly seen in a hotel room the day Jensen was killed, borrowing a small handgun and .22-caliber bullets from another man, according to charging documents. The two were then seen putting on gloves and hoodies from a vehicle and distributing a large amount of cocaine, charges state.

About 4 a.m., a witness told police he heard approximately two gunshots coming from Jensen's apartment. The door of the apartment was ajar, and Jensen was lying on the floor with a head wound, charges state.

The Medical Examiner's Office found that Jensen had suffered three gunshot wounds, including one to the chest and one to the right temple.

Police determined the bullets retrieved from the body were small enough to be from a .22-caliber handgun.

Charging documents indicate that Sutton had sent text messages to Jensen in regards to selling her drugs. Sutten denied this, saying he merely intended to confront her about the rape allegation.

On Nov. 15, Sutton was charged with obstructing justice for deleting text messages between him and Jensen.

Sutton is being held in Salt Lake County Jail on $1 million bail.
