SALT LAKE CITY — Andy Reid has been one of the stalwart names in the NFL. A local product who coached at BYU and lead the Eagles for the past 14 years has been fired. Now the rumor mill can begin as to whether the Cougars can lure Reid to coach up the next crop of quarterbacks. Expect a lot of fans to start asking when he will replace Bronco, heads up my money's on it not happening.
Reid was more successful than most coaches over his time in Philly, but couldn't get over the hump. However he is still good enough to get another job in the NFL. It would be a fantastic get for BYU, but don't be fooled. This isn't a definitive report, but simply a word of warning to anyone out there. Bronco is safe and Reid is too good to spend a year in college.
Of course Reid isn't the only coach to go. Seven total coaches including two other Super Bowl losing coaches got the ax, Lovie Smith of the Bears and Ken Whisenhunt of the Cardinals, and one might be bringing a key player with him.
Smith lead the Bears to 10 wins and the Super Bowl in the 2006 season and lost to the Colts. He also had the loyalty of many players one of which is return specialist Devin Hester. Hester became one of, if not the, greatest return men in NFL history during Smith's tenure and now Hester said he might walk away with the firing of his coach.
"I don't even know if I want to play again. That's been something on my mind for two years.
"It's not (much fun for me anymore). I've got my workers comp papers in my pocket. We'll see how I feel. I'm going to go home and talk to my wife and talk to my family and see where we go from there. I got two beautiful kids, man, two boys. A lot of stress has been on my mind lately."
Hester isn't quite what he used to be, but still a weapon and would be an interesting casualty of a "Black Monday" firing.

The NHL is on strike, but the Adirondack Phantoms have struck gold with their latest uniforms. The Phantoms are an AHL team from Jimmer-land, Glens Falls, New York. The AHL is playing and the Phantoms apparently wanted to give the crowd a New Year's Eve show.
And they were dressed to the nines.
The team busted out a tuxedo style alternate jersey on top of their orange and black uniforms and the players took to Twitter to show them off. The picture is from the team's Twitter account where they show them off.
They include French Cuffs on the sleeves, gold buttons, tuxedo jacket flaps and of course the black bow tie to top it all off. The didn't have tails, a top hat or a cane, but still looked every bit as nice as Lloyd Christmas in "Dumb and Dumber."
High class suit, but the Phantoms fell to Bridgeport in a shootout, 4-3.
Chuck Stronger than ever:
At this point most NFL fans are familiar with the story of the Colts, Andrew Luck and Chuck Pagano. For anyone not familiar with them at this point here is a quick wrap up to last weekend. The Colts were the worst team in the league with a new quarterback, Luck and a first-time head coach, Pagano. Pagano was diagnosed with Leukemia and forced to miss most of the season.
The Colts started a campaign for battling Leukemia with the name "Chuckstrong." The Colts fought and had big victories and went from the worst team to into the playoffs. Last weekend the Colts welcomed the division rival Houston Texans to Indianapolis and welcomed back their coach for the first time since he was diagnosed and they were 1-2.
The Colts were locked into the fifth seed in the AFC, but surely wanted to win for their Pagano his first game back in 13 weeks. And they did in what has become classic Colts fashion.
They struggled, got down, fought, kept it close and used their young star Luck to beat the Texans and seal the victory for Pagano. That is what the Colts have done all season, probably because that is what they have seen from their leader and coach Chuck Pagano.
Maybe you should calm down:
Yes, sports are awesome. There is something special that a fan has with his team. It shapes you and molds you into a different person. You are happy when they win and sad when they lose. Sports can make a bad day great and a great week terrible.
And then there is this guy. The Washington Redskins haven't been good for a while. They last won their division in 1999. But this year with RG3 at the helm the Redskins are back on top after taking down the Dallas Cowboys Sunday night. Redskins fans were ecstatic.
But this fan might have taken it a step too far.
The game ended, someone started filming this super fans reaction and he decided to take it out on the still standing Christmas tree. The fan wearing a John Riggins jersey has waited a long time for the Redskins to be back at the top in the NFL East and the Christmas tree was probably dying.
I firmly believe that this man was just trying to celebrate and do a favor for his wife at the same time.
Who says men have a hard time multi-tasking.
