SALT LAKE CITY -- We are getting into the season AAA calls the most deadly time of the year for teen drivers. AAA Utah says it's generally because summer brings more free time and less supervision.

The agency has released its list of the 10 most common and deadly mistakes drivers make.

The list includes risk taking, overconfidence, speed and driving under the influence.

"It's a big problem," one 17-year-old driver told KSL. "It's really dangerous and kids think they can get away with it, but it's a bad idea."

Distracted driving is also on AAA's list. So is late night cruising. The agency says teen crash rates at night are twice as high as daytime rates.

AAA Utah spokeswoman Rolayne Fairclough says parents need to make their expectations clear and continue to supervise and monitor their teen drivers, even after they get their license.
