NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — A stunning free kick from Andros Townsend gave Newcastle a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday and boosted its hopes of survival in the English Premier League.

Townsend's 58th-minute strike flew into the top corner from 25 meters (yards) out, leaving the Magpies unbeaten in four league games.

"It could be a massive three points," said Townsend. "The team are buzzing in there, it is a massive three points."

Former Newcastle player Yohan Cabaye had a penalty saved by Karl Darlow, following a handball from Papiss Cisse.

"The penalty save was a good moment for me. We have to keep going and make sure we avoid relegation," Darlow said.

Newcastle is now out of the relegation zone in 17th place, two points above 19th-place Norwich, which lost 1-0 to Arsenal.

Crystal Palace remains 16th.
