SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s number of COVID-19 cases has increased by 564 from Sunday, with one new reported death, according to the Utah Department of Health.
The new numbers indicate a 2.7% increase in positive cases since Sunday. Of the 333,905 tests conducted in Utah so far, 6.5% were positive for COVID-19. There were 5,456 tests conducted from Sunday to Monday, health officials reported.
The health department estimates there are now 9,291 active cases of COVID-19 in Utah. Another 12,205 cases are estimated to be recovered. Anyone who was diagnosed with COVID-19 three or more weeks ago and has not died is considered recovered.
There were 21 more people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Utah since Sunday, and 193 people are currently hospitalized with the disease in the state.
About 62% of Utah's intensive care unit, or ICU, hospital beds are occupied, according to state data, though that accounts for all patients and not just COVID-19 patients. A total of 80 people are in ICU beds with COVID-19, health department data shows. About 48% of Utah's non-ICU beds are occupied as of Monday.
The person who died was a Davis County man who was between the ages of 65 and 84, the health department reports. He was hospitalized when he died.
Monday’s totals give Utah 21,664 total confirmed cases, with 1,417 total hospitalizations and 168 total deaths from the disease. Previously, there were 21,100 cases in the state.
Over the past seven days, there were 3,758 new COVID-19 cases, averaging about 537 new cases per day. However, the seven-day average of the positive test rate over that time period was down slightly, at 10.9% with 34,593 tests conducted.
For the week of June 14 before that, there were 26,338 tests conducted with a 12.5% average positive rate. During that week, there were 3,298 new COVID-19 cases; an average of about 471 new cases per day.
The total number of cases reported by the health department includes all cases of COVID-19 since Utah’s outbreak began, including those who are infected now, those who have recovered from the disease, and those who have died.
There is not a COVID-19 news conference expected Monday. Utah officials typically give updates at weekly news conferences on Wednesdays or Thursdays.
