MONTICELLO — A woman died and a man suffered critical injuries after a June 15 rollover crash in rural San Juan County, the sheriff’s department said Tuesday.
The crash took place the afternoon of June 15 on West Summit Road, east of Monticello, according to a Facebook post from the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.
A passerby came across a Dodge Ram that had rolled over. Two men and a woman were in the truck, which was traveling at a high speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office. The truck rolled approximately three times, the sheriff’s office said.
A passenger in the car, 38-year-old Stephanie Zimmerman, died from her injuries at the scene.
The driver, identified as Jared Ehlers, 41, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered critical injuries. He was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado.
The front passenger of the car, a 30-year-old man, was treated for minor injuries at San Juan Hospital and released later that day, the sheriff’s office said. He was wearing a seat belt and was not ejected from the vehicle.
The incident is currently under investigation, the sheriff’s office said. The post did not say if the other two passengers were wearing seat belts during the crash.
No further information about the incident was provided.
